Koala Cuddle Etching

Art for me is all about inspiration and gathering that inspiration through connection and experiences. I recently found some inspiration from visiting the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Tim and I did the 'koala experience' and had breakfast with the koalas. We even got a few cuddles!

This sweet little etching is inspired by that experience. It was such a joy to make and hand-paint to let the flowering gum ‘pop’ in the background. As you can see in the images below, I worked on a number of editions experimenting with different tones including warm sepia, burnt umber, burnt Sienna, black and a hint of cadmium red. It can be very difficult to find the right combination of inks and how much ink to add to the etching as the pressure of the press can vary as well as a number of other variables.

I have still got a little way to go with editing the final result of this etching but I just wanted to share with you a sneak peak!

I am hoping this etching will be going in an exhibition later this year. For now, I will be going on a bit of leave so I won’t be doing any printing or original pieces. But please subscribe to the newsletter to get the latest info and details!
