Reflection

The last few weeks have gone so quickly. My petite solo exhibition ‘Homage to Home’ in Brisbane has already been and gone! I was really happy with this collection of etchings and it really resonated with my experiences of the last year. It’s the first exhibition I’ve had since having Hugo and I won’t lie, it was a massive thing for me. I really struggled at moments because I print, paint, do my admin, emails, gallery runs, framer runs, package and send all my orders whilst looking after bub. Most of my work happens when he is sleeping and even those day naps are getting shorter and shorter. Sometimes I feel really robbed of time when Hugo wakes up 30 minutes later!!

But anyway, the exhibition was wonderful - I had a number of sales and I just felt overall the quality of work was among some of my best. The more I work in the print studio and spend time with the printing press I just find my skills constantly improving. I have used presses for over 12 years now but I am still learning! Especially with Brisbane’s funny humid weather there can be so many challenges with paper and inks. If the paper is too wet, too dry, if the ink is too runny or I add plate oil or white spirits, so many things can affect the way an image is printed. Every print is always different and always exciting.

Below you can find some photos of the exhibition and exhibition opening. We had a really nice low key opening on the Friday night. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to some of my clients about the pieces and the direction I took with this body of work. My next exhibition ‘A City Between Worlds’ will be opening on the 14th of July at 5.30pm at Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart. I am really looking forward to this exhibition because I haven’t shown my work in Tasmania for a number of years (due to covid, illnesses etc). As many of you know, I am originally from Tassie and it’s home to me. I would love LOVE love it if you could come support me! Please tell your friends and family about it and bring them along! If you need a reminder for the exhibition/dates please follow me on Instagram or Facebook and I will let you know or alternatively subscribe to my mailing list and I will be letting people know a few days before hand.
