Coming up to the Festive Season

The last month or so has consisted of me getting orders ready, singing lots of rhymes and songs to Hugo, catching up with my mothers group, baking lots, trying or attempting rather to organise Christmas presents early and getting ready for our trip down to Tasmania mid-December. I am looking forward to spending time with my parents and brother and his family. I can’t wait to do lots of beach picnics down at Hindsby beach, going to the twilight markets and rektango (which for those who don’t know is this fabulous little area in Salamanca where they have jazz/soul/funky bands play on Friday evenings). I have so many memories and places in Hobart that mean so much to me. Even though Hobart has changed enormously since my childhood, those special spots still exist and will hopefully live on for future generations.

One thing that concerns me a little about our holiday down south is the weather. I’ve always loved a colder climate and rugging up with multiple cardigans, jackets, scarves, beanies etc. But we just had a cooler 23 degrees and i’m suddenly bringing out the oversized woolly jumpers, thick socks and a heater. Am I a Queenslander now? How did this happen?! I feel like most of the time I am sweating through my clothes in this humidity. When we first moved here almost three years ago, I felt like I was practically suffocating in the heat. The temperature can be oppressive here. I remember Tim saying you just have to ‘relax’ into it - I think I sort of get that now.

Anyway, as some of you know I am a compulsive list-maker and love my organisation. This particularly comes naturally to me when running a studio and now being a mum and trying to get everything sorted for our house. I have whiteboards in the kitchen and studio for cleaning, cooking, repairs, Hugo’s nursery, groceries and now I’ve added our Holiday as a category. I’m thinking of potentially designing some stationary next year to compliment my notebooks that I already have on the website. I find the grocery list really handy with various categories including dairy, meats, fruit and vegetables. Or just a note pad could be handy with a magnet to put on the fridge. If there is anything you’d like to see me design or make in future please let me know! I am always keen to hear new ideas and suggestions. But for now I am thrilled to share with you my 2023 calendars. I currently have 5 left because they have been so popular. I remember when I was designing these I took on allot of advise and suggestions from family and friends. I wanted to make sure they were really practical and had enough room to write notes, Birthdays and events. Are you enjoying your calendar? I’d love to hear from you.

Although I have been juggling allot of things at the moment, I have been really happy to offload taking photographs of my calendar. My photographer here in Brisbane is just magical when it comes to bringing my European dreamy travel aesthetic to life. Please check out my images below!

In my spare time, I have found myself doing allot of baking. For some reason when I am extremely sleep deprived I want to do more things in my day to feel like I have accomplished something. This doesn’t really make sense I realise but I have found baking to be really rewarding.

My favourite cake is a carrot cake. I love the moist deliciousness from the carrot and the cream cheese. We actually chose to have a carrot cake for our wedding cake last year and it was amazing! Here is the recipe for the Women’s Weekly carrot cake I made the other day:

I’ve taken a few festive images of my cake with my beautiful linen tea towel below!
